The compositions of these drawings often revolve around their pensive gaze on the world. Silent spectator of the city, the cat oscillates between the fascination for the agitation, and the melancholy of not being part of it.

In many of his drawings, Jean-Jacques Sempé takes pleasure in giving an answer to the famous mystery that surrounds the lives of our animals in our absence. The cartoonist lends them almost human behavior, humorous reflections of our ways of being.
