Sempé and music is a long love story that goes from Jazz to Debussy and his Clair de Lune, via Trenet, Ravel, Gershwin and Michel Legrand. On this illustration, he offers us a little journey of modesty in the philharmonic orchestra, from the conductor to the harpist, to the snare drum player all moved by this honour.

Seen from the old port, the bonne mère overlooks the sailboats, pointy and other boats that cross its waters. Marseilles reveals itself in all its splendor, under the pen of Paolo Mariotti, with the magnificent pink and yellow facades of the new quay, and the tangle of heterogeneous buildings, as far as Notre Dame de la Garde. From the top of her hill, she watches over the bay. For centuries, the survivors of storms or shipwrecks have covered it with ex-votos for its gracious protection.

Will we ever get tired of Paris? Jean-Jacques Sempé is constantly revisiting the famous corners of the capital, taking a new and poetic look at the city, like an eternal discovery. The end of the Ile de la Cité here becomes the bow of a ship, behind which the statue of Henri IV, the buildings on Place Dauphine, the Cathedral of Notre-Dame and the Sainte Chapelle rise in an undifferentiated heap. A little bit of the world, without its world....

The Corsican coastline is adorned with towers dating from the Genoese occupation in the 16th and 17th centuries, the Albo Tower and the Agnello Tower being the two most emblematic ones. For Monsieur Z, they blend into the landscape and flora of a peaceful cove.
