Emiliano Ponzi lives in Milan, Italy, where he trained at the European Institute of Design. He creates illustrations for advertising, newspaper, magazines, and book covers - from Bukowski to Murakami... His references and influences range from Hopper to Hockney, Alex Katz or Lorenzo Mattoti. His bold illustrations cultivate repetition, the singular use of lines, and his graphic compositions are dreamlike, profound and poetic.
In Italy, he works for Armani, Bulgari, Gucci, La Repubblica, TIM, Pirelli, Ferrari, Lamborghini and the Milan Triennale Design Museum, but clients from all over the world call on him: The New York Times, Le Monde, The New Yorker, Louis Vuitton, Hyundai, Esquire, and Amnesty International.
He has received numerous awards including the Young Guns Award and the coveted Gold Cube from the Art Directors Club of New York. The New York and Los Angeles Societies of Illustrators have also honoured him several times. "10×10", his first monograph published in 2011 by Corraini (Italy), was quickly sold out.
In 2015, he published "The Journey of the Penguin", his first collection of illustrations, for the 80th anniversary of Penguin Books. "The great New York subway map" will follow, published by the MOMA New York in 2018. In France, Gallimard is publishing "En mer", illustrations by Ponzi and text by Riccardo Bozzi. Emiliano is considered one of the most brilliant illustrators of his generation.
